Description: 
  
  One of the most attractive wild areas for all kinds of travelers and adventurers, 
  photographers as well, it was named after a small river that leaves deep and 
  narrow canyon in the ridges for flat plains of the valley. The valley of Tunka 
  is sprinkled with settlements as it is good for agriculture and herding, with 
  rich soils and good pastures. Area is populated with Siberia indigenous Buryat 
  people, the descendants of Mongols, mainly busy in cattle breading and agriculture 
  From Irkutsk, the travelers takea Russian 4WD military-style vehicle. The road 
  to Lake Baikal curves through the thick bushes of Siberian taiga-forest. This 
  is a part of the main highway between Moscow and Vladivostok that stretches 
  for over 10.000 km. In about 2 hours from Irkutsk, before the road zigzags down 
  to the lake everybody stops astonished by a magnificent view of the water mirror 
  and the Khamar-Daban Mountains beyond. At a small market place, local people 
  sell a variety of smoked fish from Baikal and other local delicavies. Right 
  
  below your feet, the Kultuk settlement is situated at the southern extremity 
  of Lake Baikal, where from the road makes sharp turn to the west and after climbing 
  relatively gradual pass gets to the "Golden Tunka Valley". The Tunka 
  valley belongs to the territory 
  the Republic of Buryatia. In two hours, you finally come to the Arshan settlement 
  located at the foot of the Sayan Mountains (Tunkinskie Pinnacles) that are snow 
  topped for over ten months a year. It is a mineral water health resort. Sunny 
  weather, nice scenery and clean highland air make it an attractive destination 
  for both Russian and overseas travelers. Those who like adventure activities 
  can take the trek up the Kyngarga River gorge. Another popular climb is the 
  nearest summit of 2.005 m ascends. If you take pains to overcome the steep slope 
  and challenging path, be awarded with a breathtaking view of the surrounding 
  picks, forests, plains and lakes of Tunka and the Arshan village. Ancient volcano 
 of 
  cones are clearly observed at the bottom of the valley. Various relaxing trips 
  in the vicinity of Arshan are available, such as a 0.5 hour walk to the Buddhist 
  temple, or hiking to the nearest waterfall on Kyngarga river. In about thirty 
  minutes drive from Arshan, at the bank of Irkut river, there is a natural thermal 
  shower of Zhemchug (Pearl). Overnights at family pension / hostels in Arshan. 
 
Itinerary:  
Day 1: Drive to Arshan settlement. Sightseeing 
  around Arshan.  
  Day 2: One day walking up the mountains.  
  Day 3: Visit to Zhemchug. Departure to Irkutsk.
