BAIKAL MARATHONS

Siberia always contributes a number
of gifted sportsmen to the Soviet, Russian and international championships. There are
many sport schools, clubs and societies to grow up the new generation of champions.
Thanks to a long winter, ice hockey, speed skating and skiing are very popular in Siberia
and Russia in general. Running and skiing marathons at Baikal has more than 20 year
history. Started as a club event with few participants, marathons now are included in
the program of the annual Siberian Winter Festival. Every year the number of sportsmen is
increasing, representatives from different regions of Russia and sportsmen from abroad
take part in different marathons, for example INTERNATIONAL LAKE BAIKAL ICE MARATHON.
Such a contest is absolutely unique sport event, where great spirit of competition flies
over the superb nature sites.
